Paramedical Staff, Allied Health Professionals, Emergency Response Teams, Security Officers involved in patient transport, Any staff directly involved in patient care and emergency response Note: BLS training is essential for all healthcare personnel who may be required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) or assist in emergencies before advanced medical help arrives.

Participants must have basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, Must be able to physically perform chest compressions and rescue breaths, Must wear comfortable attire suitable for practical sessions, Attendance for the full duration of the training session is mandatory, Completion of both theory and practical assessments is required for certification.

  • 1. Understand the fundamental principles of Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • 2. Recognize life-threatening emergencies, including cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and choking.
  • 3. Perform high-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants.
  • 4. Demonstrate effective use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • 5. Provide appropriate care for a conscious and unconscious choking victim.
  • 6. Apply the correct sequence of actions following the Chain of Survival.
  • 7. Perform basic first aid techniques until advanced medical care arrives.
  • 8. Build confidence to act quickly and effectively in real-life emergency situations.
  • 9. Emphasize teamwork and communication during resuscitation efforts.
  • 10. Understand the importance of early intervention in improving survival outcomes.

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
  • 1. Identify the signs of cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, and choking in adults, children, and infants.
  • 2. Perform high-quality CPR according to internationally recognized guidelines.
  • 3. Safely and effectively use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
  • 4. Manage airway obstructions in conscious and unconscious victims.
  • 5. Demonstrate the correct sequence of BLS steps, including scene safety and patient assessment.
  • 6. Apply the Chain of Survival concepts in real-life emergency situations.
  • 7. Communicate effectively and work as part of a resuscitation team.
  • 8. Deliver basic first aid interventions until professional medical help arrives.
  • 9. Exhibit confidence in initiating emergency response actions in a timely manner.

R.A. Dasith Thanura

R.A. Dasith Thanura is an accomplished healthcare professional with extensive expertise in Quality Management, Patient Safety, and Emergency Response Training. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing, OUM) and is currently reading for a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Quality & Patient Safety. He is a Registered Nurse (PHRCS No. 2862) and a Certified Professional Trainer, with additional certifications as an ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Systems Internal Auditor/Lead Auditor. Dasith is the founder of Ceylon Lifesaver Academy (established in 2012) and has served as a First Aid Instructor for the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society, Gampaha Branch. He is also a Justice of the Peace for the Whole Island (JP - WI) and an active member of several professional organizations, including: The Institute of Chartered Professional Managers of Sri Lanka (Associate Member)
